And this is the reason I love and I always had a dream to become a landscape architect. It works from two perspective both artistic expression and a profound commitment to the well-being of our planet.

How To Become A Landscape Architect

In this article we will be talking about different stages of becoming a landscape architect. This includes the education experience, licence networking, scope and income.

Education

Of course you must have to go to a landscape architecture school that teaches you everything you need to know about designing landscapes. Not just that you also learn about things like how plants grow, how to design beautiful spaces and how to take care of the environment too. 

Where you will learn architecture with sustainability. When someone graduates from a good school they are more likely to get a job because employers know that they are skilled and have a good study background.

Licensure

Not many of the architecture students know how to get a licence first. To become a licensed landscape architect you need to pass a series of exams and meet experience requirements too.

This exam is called landscape architect registration examination that will test your knowledge and skills in various areas of the subject.

Salary totally depends on the interview and depending on the knowledge you have. But the basic and average salary starts from $50,000 to $60,000 per year with the potential for significant growth as experience in expertise increases.

How long did it take me to become a landscape architect?

For me, becoming a landscape architect was not something that happened overnight. It usually takes around 5–7 years because I needed to complete a degree in landscape architecture, gain practical experience, and in some countries, get licensed as well. The journey felt long, but it was honestly worth it once I started designing outdoor spaces professionally.

Do I need drawing skills to become a landscape architect?

Yes, I believe basic drawing and sketching skills really help. When I started learning landscape architecture, I used sketches to explain ideas for gardens, parks, and outdoor spaces. But the good thing is that I also learned digital tools like CAD and 3D software later, so I did not need to be a perfect artist from day one.

Is landscape architecture a good career choice?

In my experience, landscape architecture can be a very rewarding career if you enjoy creativity, nature, and design. I like that this profession allows me to work on parks, residential gardens, urban spaces, and sustainable projects while also improving how people interact with outdoor environments.

What subjects should I focus on if I want to become a landscape architect?

When I was preparing for this career, subjects like design, architecture, geography, environmental science, and horticulture helped me the most. I also found computer design software and creative thinking extremely useful while studying landscape architecture.

Can I become a landscape architect without an architecture degree?

Yes, in many cases I can still become a landscape architect without studying traditional architecture first. A specialized landscape architecture degree is usually enough. Some people even transition from related fields like urban planning, gardening, or environmental design into landscape architecture later in their careers.
